Hi all
I just spoke to someone at Telkom helpline. Like everyone knows, it is very difficult to understand their English and you need to have a stetoscope to hear them, but the following is what they said about my 24month bundle contract.
I signed a 24month ADSL 398kbps bundle from Telkom 2months ago. I wanted to know if I can cancel the contract so that I can move to another ISP like all you can eat or Axxess Africa, because of obvious advantages such as lower prices and better caps. The lady from Telkom said that I will pay a penalty when cancelling the contract (about R64 per month not completed). Apparently the modem (which comes for free with the contract) is still mine after the contract is cancelled and penalties are paid.
When asked if I can cancel my ISP account at Telkom, she said that I can without paying the penalty, and that I can then change my ISP. I would still have to pay the monthly levy for the ADSL line of R329 p/m plus line usage of R89 p/m.
This is good news, because I signed the 398kbps deal was meant to pay R449
per month for it, plus R299 for 3gig, but for some reason according to them we have the 198 one and two gig
and are charged R329 per month plus 199. So in total with Telkom as my ISP I
pay I am paying about R529 for a meary way too little 2G. I will therefore get better deals from other ISP's for the same amount or a bit more but with a much larger cap. (If you take in account what I was willing to or agreed to pay when I signed the bloody thing)
Is what this lady told me true? Can I change my ISP without penalty and which other ISP can you recommend? I think Axxess Africa and all you can eat looks good. Does anyone have experience with them?
Thanks
