What can we do to improve online gaming?

Didn't know where to post this question. I need some technical advice more than gaming advice.

Here's my story. Me and 2 friends wanted to start playing online PS3 ModernWarfare 2. (I know it's old, but it's the only game we all have)

When we try Private Match or Co-op it's unplayable with the lag. Sometimes it's me, sometimes one of them, sometimes all of us. (Apparently the online servers it's a bit better, but we haven't been able to get all three of us connected at the same time in the same game.)

It seems that if we play alone, it's sort of acceptable, but as soon as we all try together it becomes a problem.

Our setups are the following:
Me: Telkom ADSL 10G 1024Mbps, PS3 connected wireless to cheapie router.
Friend1 and 2: MTN uncapped lite with sharelink wireless router connected with cable to PS3.

I don't know much about these wireless routers, that's why I'm posting in the MTN forum.
I think my internet line is OK, because I play Battlefield 3 on the PC and I don't have any lag problems.

What can we do to make it better? (Keep in mind we are stuck with our current hardware, contracts)
What kind of diagnostics can we run to see what can be improved?

Gaming sucks on 3G. Simple as that. Your friends need to get ADSL.

^ This.

I played MW3 for a while on 3G and it only worked well if I had my modem in one specific spot. And even then there were days when I couldn't play.

That being said MW3 did perform better than MW2 so you might want to try that, but I suspect it's not going to make a huge difference.

I know that would be ideal. But they just got their contracts a month ago. I haven't seen it on their side, but they claim if they play each other it's not as bad as when I join in.

I read on some other website MW2 is peer to peer so could the problem be between telkom and mtn?

I got put off when the people started to recommend opening ports and demiliterized zones on the routers and portforwarding and all these higher grade techie stuff.
