Need some advice
Have to buy my mom a car looking at the toyota etos or hyundai i10
What are your opinions?
Shehas a merc c230 2002 model and its beyond a mess.

Thanks

Are you sure she'll be able to handle the downgrade? It can be quite traumatic.

I've driven both as rentals, and the Etios was a better drive than the i10. The Etios was more solid on the road and also has a bigger engine. 1.5l vs the 1.2l on the i10.

Both are a massive downgrade from your mom's Merc.

Does she want something out of the box, or are you considering demos or 1-2 year old cars too ... could find a korean car with decent engine plus balance of maintenance plan for the same price as a new etios or i10

Guys I need advice and am open to all suggestions.
I know nothing about these cars.
It's a pity but it is what it is.
Money is the main issue here.
I would also look at a slightly older better car with motor plan of some sort
Thanks

I had the i10 when my car went in for panel beating. It got to the point that i just wanted to walk to work. So no i would rather hang myself from my eye sockets, while being anally penetrated by a razor blade than ever buy or use an i10 again.

Do you love her? LOL
I wouldn't buy my mother any of those cars. Look at a used Honda jazz. Almost every older woman seems to drive one.

+1
Would have been my choice as well

This, a second hand Honda Jazz is probably your best bet as far as older women go.

Jazz is FAR better than both but ya, its in another league and in that price range its going to be really old. What about the Picanto? Prefer its interior to both its mechanically sound and nippy enough for town.

I drove the Etios the other day and TBH I would rather drive a Tazz. It had 3k KM on the clock and the driver side arm rest was cracked, the handbrake was loose with about 2cm play in either direction and the interior was possibly the worst I have ever seen. Engine seemed good though.

Nah, the Etios is far better than the Kia or Jazz!
Also its a Toyota is has pedigree and will hold its resale value better than the others.
Service and maintenance for the Toyota is second to none!

Definitely take the Kia for a spin before you decide. I think Kia now offer maintenance plan standard across most of their range and I reckon the Piccanto looks better than the i10 and Etios combined.

My other thoughts were a low mileage old shape Yaris or Fiesta

Why not buy the previous shape Polo? Very reliable and you can buy it for well below 100k. Economival with good build quality. Aim for 2008 model. The new entry level cars are terrible, I would rather buy a slightly older, solid car.

He wants a service plan. I can't imagine the horribleness of downgrading from a Benz (even an old one) to a Koreabox, I'd definitely recommend an older, better car if it was me. Way better value for money.

Toyota pedigree lol.
Service and maintenance yes, pedigree no chance. Are you the type would would stick 17" mags, free flow exhaust and add a TRD sticker to the back of a Etios?

Even Toyota salesmen think the Etios is kaaaak

A girl at work did that to her Picanto and it looks shyte. She keeps bragging how much she spent on it. So one of my colleagues instantly shouted; "why didn't you save all that money and spend it on an actual car."

T'was priceless :D
