Hi there,

I have the problem that our server is hosted in the UK
100mbps connection, 100gb per month bandwidth, 3 static ips (more if needed)
Hardware spec: intel q6600 quad core, 8gb ram, 2 x 200gb sata disks in raid, supports remote power cycling

Now due to telscum, the international net is terrible. I get a lot of packet loss on the vpn link to this server, and the site running on it is generally very slow as well vpn or not thanks to the high latency.

For that server, we pay R2k per month

I am hoping that you guys can recommend the best bang for buck on local colocation services. Either where they supply the server, or where we buy our own similar hardware and colocate it. I would most likely need 4u of rack space. Everything I seen so far looks expensive locally. I need at least 10gb bandwidth a month(mostly local traffic), and later as things evolve, I might need more. The service is mostly for use in south africa, so local would be better speed wise, however what I seen of local pricing is prohibitive. I also worry that the speed of interconnection to the local datacenter might be a problem. if we say have 20 users on 4mbps dsl lines all hitting the server, I am pretty sure the connection will see problems way before the server itself does. Any ideas. I am expecting to pay a lot more than R2k, but the less the better.

Thanks,

Steed.
