Just a technical question . I set up a telkom router( yeah I know) at my new work the line sync at 4096 , attenuation is 8.5 , SNR is 29 for down streaming but when I do speed test I get 200kbps on iburst and 96kbps on gamco . It's a Web Africa account I'm using . Could the router just be busted or could it be something else ?

Axxess says I'm at 2.28 Mbps (291.54 KB/sec) and iBurst says I'm downloading at 1.95Mbps and uploading at 314kbps. Where can I check my line sync? I have the Telkom Marconi Premium Combo

Should be on the status page at the bottom , that is where mine is

Which webafrica account u using though? And also what time of day did you do the tests?
Becoz during peak hours, the data traffic can be pretty congested hey~
Besides, the line sync is just the highest speed u can get from ur router to the exchange, and doesnt indicate any further

It's a prepaid SAIX account , the test were done at about 17h20 , I understand that there can congestion , but damn I would expect a local speed to at least give me speeds in the region of 600kbps to 15000kbps on a 4MB line

Sorry, maybe I'm a bit slow... but where can I see line attenuation and SNR on the Premium Combo?

There is you problem.... Should be above 10dB, make it 15 to be safe. Phone a techie to come and sort it out.

You are thinking of the SNR :) , attenuation shows how far you are form an exchange the lower the better . But yeah I figured out why , I was a bit stupid , the current line is an IS business account with a static IP , so even If I used my own router and a saix account I still went through the IS network at the exchange .

:o :o :o

Havnt had coffee and abit pissed still,,,, so sorry my bad....

My SNR jumps between 4 - 9, and line probably drops once every two days now. Just a quick drop then a reconnect. Usually dont even notice it. But, my line speed is perfect. iBurst speed test is around 3.6mbit.

Anyways, Telskum came out to check it out. Techie plugged in his modem, and the SNR was around 11 on his modem. The excuse was that it might be my modem (got a D-Link something).

Decided that I will rather not complain and live with the drop every day or two, as opposed to them downgrading the line to something slower and more stable.

I'm not 100% sure in your case , but it is normally on the status page of your router
