What could cause a difference between my dota 2 ping and my speedtest.net ping?

Getting 30-40 ping on speedtest.net

Getting a constant 80-130 on the dota2 server.

Have ruled out the issue being with the server because no one else is experiencing this difference in ping.

What else could be causing the difference?
 
Same here. My dota 2 ping has gotten considerably worse over the past 3 months. Locally it hovers around 120ms and internationally it sits at 300-330ms when I used to get 60ms local and 230-350ms International.
 
I'm assuming you mean the SA server?

That's a bit high. Don't really like the SA server, but I get a ping of about 20.

80-130 is perfectly playable though. I play on Europe West with a ping of 200 perfectly fine.

But anyway to answer your question.

Can only be your ISP. Who are they?
 
I'm on mweb. Ja has to be isp because I just finished laying a new cable with the telkom guy to the corner. So unless its a problem with my suburb, it must be an ISP thing. Weird thing is, bf4 gets better pings, roughly around 40-60 ping.
 
Tried setting to low. Nothing happened. Googled what that setting's purpose is and couldn't really figure it out.
 
My ping is just fine, both EU servers and SA server. I get a constant ping of 50 ms locally, and constant 200 ms to the EU.

My BF4/3 pings are really low, 20 Max, maybe your exchange is congested, post your line stats here.
 
I've found that Afrihost and Axxess have had this this issue since switching to MTN. Got a Mweb account and ping was down to 11ms, we cant rule out conspiracy here :)

because we you perform speed test, it is performed to your nearest location. Maybe from the same city, and thus resulting it low ms, however when you connect to DoTA 2 servers, they are relatively far from your place hence resulting in high ping.

but there are ways from which your problem can be solved.

^This, and you should try traceroutes instead. They're far more reliable IMO.

i ping London servers with command prompt i actually get 180ms to the UK on LTE

interesting that you get those pings on speedtest and dota 2 i would like to know the issue.
