Hi.. Can anyone recommend what desktop to buy for home use: photography, music , no games . Thank you.

Does it include screen/speaker/mouse & keyboard?
Do you have a box that you'd like to use? Any other parts you already have?
Can you build it yourself or do you want an off the shelf one? Are you pro/against second hand?

Hi Jonathan,
I have a decent screen, keyboard, mouse and speakers- would prefer new and off the shelf. I would like a smaller size box.
Thank you

Off-the-shelf with no gaming intended? You could go with a pre-built OEM system. Anything under R6000 will make compromises on performance to fit under that budget.

Pre-built:
Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 73 @ R6299

Pre-built Mini:
HP Pavilion Mini (L2N24EA) @ R6499

Barebones Mini (Linux use):
Intel NUC NUC5PPYH @ R3727
ADATA 4GB DDR3L-1600 @ R381
Transcend SSD370S 256GB @ R1575
Total: R5683

Barebones Mini (Windows use):
Intel NUC NUC5PPYH @ R3727
ADATA 4GB DDR3L-1600 @ R381
Samsung 650 120GB @ R805
Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit DSP @ R1502
Total: R6415

Apple Mac Mini (might as well):
Mac Mini 2015 (MGEM2) @ R8499

Doing a DIY desktop with a budget of R6k with the OS included just isn't feasible at this point. The rand is just too crazy and the prices for baseline Core i3 chips are insane. Buying from Evetech is also cheaper than buying retail if you're getting a Skylake system with Windows.

If you're quick, you can also nab one of these bundles from PotterH. Add in your own chassis and PSU, along with a hard drive and Windows, and you're good to go.

Thank you so much for the very detailed reply, I really appreciate it. This set me off on an exhausting search but have finally settled on Lenovo ThinkCentre E73 Core i5 Tower PC for R7886 from Loot. ( had to spend more than my budget) .

That's a good deal! There's also a wide range of GPUs that will fit into that power supply's budget, so if you ever intend on playing some games in the future, there's lots of options to choose from.
