My dsl line was installed today. The techie said it is a 384k line. I phone telkom internet and got an account, which says something like online####@512dsl.......

That 384k line and the 512 in the username is bothering me. What do I have? I saw that the average speed of downloads are 30-35k. Is this a 384k speed or a 512 speed? Is there a price difference between online####@384.... and online####@512....?

That's just a username, don't pay any attention to it. Your line speed is what your line syncs at. Check what speed your modem/router is syncing at - although 30-35kB/s seems like a 384k line

So i am not paying more for the 512 username instead of using a 384 username? How would i see what my router is syncing at? Its a telkom wireless router if that helps.

Nope. I don't even think there's any usernames with 384 in it (could be wrong) but there's no difference in the pricing.

I think the @domain name for the adsl username is like that simply because when ADSL was first released they only had 512k, nowadays however they are just too lazy to change it.

I've got a 4mb line on a @dsl512 account name so if that were the case, trust me, I would be more pissed off about it than you :P
