Hi guys

what do you call the pci card which has a ethernet port and gives you access to you pc from the internet
at bios level.

Bud it's called a NIC (Network interface card)

Oh it all caught up there, sorry I did'nt think before I touched my keyboard
 
There must be software to access the bios settings from within whatever os its running...

If you knew hardware architecture, you would know that it's pretty difficult to do most of those settings within high-level software. And then again, most of them require a reboot. There's just times when you need to have absolute control (as if you're sitting in front of the pc) and that's what KVM-over-IP does.
 
I thought I did.

I guess you gonna have to get yourself someone to sit down in front of the pc and type while you sms or something...

Dell used to call the remote management cards, or something like that. I have used this same type of setup to actually load the OS and configure MS SBS 2000 when the server was on the other side of the world from me. Man that brings back some memories.
