Hi

I was wondering if it's one of those blue and green boxes that telkom techies come work on when theres a problem.

The small blue and green boxed next to the road are not Exchanges, those are the DP's (Distrobution Point). For a good Idea of how it works you should check out How Stuff Works. Search for Telecommunications or simillair and you should find an article explaining how the copper runs from the exchange to the dp/dp's to your home.

EDIT: I Think wikipedia also has an article... Not sure where tho. Try searching wikipedia for DP or distrobution point

well guys that little !@#$$blue box is called and sdc(street distrabution cabinet) and it consist of copper any other colour is mini dslam or some other crossconnect equipment.

A good question ... perhaps we could contact the much beloved Telkom PR person and ask to arrange for a tour at one of their facilities and then take lots of pictures and put it up somewhere.

It should be rather interesting to see where all our bits and bytes end up.

All our bits and bytes end us as more of our coin in their coffers. :(

I am more interested in the telkoms bank account than in their dslams
