Hi all,

I just want to get an idea of what kind of email marketing software you or your company use to do targeted and/or mass mailings. What kind of volumes do you guys push through and what do you pay on average?

Also if you have existing systems in place, which functions are missing from your current software that you wish were available and any other gripes you may have?

Just doing this as a small marketing research feeler.

We use mailblaze for our company email, but not that often..

Thanks, first time I've seen them. Wow, they are pricey though.

Yes, very expensive, we don't send out many Bulk mails so I haven't looked for another provider..

I noticed one of the online stores I purchased from using Amazon SES.. A Bulk and single email service.. Looks cheap for low volume if you already using other Amazon services.

The reason companies like mailchimp and mailblaze are so expensive is because you are almost guaranteed delivery. They have contracts with many ISPs to allow there mail to go through whereas if you did it yourself your domain etc would be blacklisted very quickly. I suppose at the end of the day that's the decision you need to way up versus capital outlay.

Wrong. They do not have contracts with ISP's, this would open up for massive amounts of spam mail. Most of these providers have particular policies in place to ensure that mails sent through them are valid. SendGrid banned my address when i was doing dev saying i violated a terms and conditions, which ones i have no idea as i sent a total of 10 mails to myself!. We eventually just went with mailgun but we wrote our own mail campaign platform and just use them for pure sending, tracking and everything is done by us.

In order for your mails not to get blocked you need to setup the proper DKIM on your domain and ensure your mail records are setup correctly to authenticate against your domain. Most modern mail servers (i.e. exim) support DKIM.

I use PHPList. I have customised the app and newsletter templates for my use and send it from my server hosted overseas.
If the templates are designed correctly they pass spam assasin.

Send out monthly newsletters to clients. Not very high volume though. +/- about 500 per month.

PHPList is free open source

We're sending about half a million a month.
Are you sending it to subscribed users or are you still weening them out?

I know some of the companies are very sticky when it comes to the mails and the people you are sending too.

Those mails go to our client base.

Using 2, one is very reliable, using AWS and the other is on a dedicated server, but EXPENSIVE (Per user)

Interspire Email Marketer: VERY EXPENSIVE - Per user. But of course, delivery and tracking is free. No monthly payments. Development on it seemed to have stopped. LOTS OF FEATURES.

Preferred one is Sendy, at sendy.co
Also open source. Using Amazon Web Services, theres a very small cost, like $1 per 10000 or something. Can't remember. But it is very very very reliable and easy to use. Development on this is ongoing and very nice actually. It even shows you who have marked you as spam etc. Very nice to use. Useful features, but not as many features as Interspire.

I used GraphicMail for a couple of my once of sends. At least when I get stuck I can speak to someone in Cape town who will help me.
