Since there are some nice specials running on these babies and because my mom is supposedly
getting some kind of Subsidy from the Department of Education for a Laptop sometime next year, we have decided now is the time to get one. Looking at any type of small & mobile PC that is < R3000.
First on the list is the ASUS EEE PC 701-CW Black or White - [701CW]
R2,598.99 Incl. VAT from Itai. Looks like a good deal:
ASUS® EEE PC 701-CW - Intel® 900Mhz Celeron®M ULV, 512MB DDR2 Memory, Internal 4GB SSD Based Hard Drive, Intel® 910GML Chipset, 7" 800x480 LCD, 10/100 LAN, WiFi b/g, SD Card Slot, 3xUSB 2.0, 0.3MP Webcam, VGA Out, Mic & Headphone, 3.5Hr Batt Life, 890g Only. Software: Windows XP Home Live Edition, Microsoft Works 9.0
Then I'll just get a 4GB SDHC card to supplement the limited SSD. Also have to decide Black vs White?
Then Kalahari has the Linux one on special, Asus EEE PC 700-W, for R2100 with free delivery. But then I'll have to get XP on the small little 2GB SSD in some way, after I got my hands on a $$$ XP DSP copy. So this option does not look that inviting.
Some PC Discount Online shop has one of these for cheaper, but I trust Itai/Kalahari more.
Any other options that someone would like to recommend? Anyone had any problems with their EEE PC's? Tips/Tricks, Comments, Linux/Windows Bashing, anything welcome! Thx
