Hi Guys,

I am looking at selling my RX580 8gb but would like to know if the series s has a better gpu or not. as i would like to purchase an Xbox Series S
Any advice please

You can't really compare, but probably around a 1660ti or so, so still better then an RX580.

It's not really an apples to apples kind of thing. Looking at a purely teraflops comparison the RX580 is more powerful but that's not really how you should be comparing them.

I think the question you should be asking is why are you looking to get a console? Are you looking to play some specific games that don't run on your PC or what?

I am keeping my pc and selling the GPU but really want to try out console as i have been pc gaming for the last 20 years. Sitting on the couch or lying in bed playing instead of sitting at my computer desk. At the moment the only games i am playing is forza and flying flight simulator

You'll most likely be happy with the Series S then. It's just a much better experience for couch gaming.

If you're not used to a controller then that may take some getting used to, especially with FPS games, but it's just something you'll have to adjust to over time.

Forza and Flight Sim are great on the Xbox.
Go for it.

Steam Link. I don't think you get the hardware anymore, but you can get the app on Samsung TVs, Google Play (for Mi Box etc) and ios.
Otherwise I suggest getting a PS5 and keeping your PC for the best of both worlds.

I went from PC only to PC + console some time ago, but still wouldn't want to be a console-only gamer even though there are times I much prefer couch gaming.

That's just a crap experience IMO.

Neither Forza or Flight Simulator run on PS5, plus it's way more expensive than a Series S.

Moonlight is better than stock steamlink, but of course you need a game streaming gpu.

Forza and Flight sim would still work on his PC if he kept it...

Steam link is not perfect, but at 1080p 60fps it matches the XBox Series S on paper.
Sometimes I do see compression artifacts, but not regularly. It can be minimized with the correct settings.
Then lastly, the added input latency isn't that much and hardly noticeable if you have a TV with low input latency. I have rumble as I have on the PS4 as well as surround sound.
I can't comment on the current gen consoles, but I see no reason to buy a game on PS4 rather than play it on steam link. You also get the added benefit of tweaking the graphics exactly how you like it to get that locked 60fps.

Moonlight looks interesting, I will give it a try. Not that my TV supports faster than 60fps though.

Probably a mobile RTX 3050 is the closest comparison to the XSS

If i had that money i would get the xbox series x as im not a fan of PS just because the gamers i play. I think i will keep my GPU for now. will stay on pc

I'm not referring to the performance, I mean it's not a nice "couch" experience as you're still essentially controlling a PC. Same issues which make a HTPC annoying for gaming, you always need a keyboard around because Windows is going to throw some pop-up at you at some point which you can't use a controller for.

I have a PS5, Xbox SX and a gaming PC (using Steam Big Picture mode) connected in my entertainment unit. The PC hardly ever gets used.

The ideal use cases for each IMO (in the context of "couch" gaming):

PC: Games that don't exist on console (e.g. Star Citizen) or games that are objectively worse to play on console (e.g. RTS games).

Xbox: Mainly classic back-compat games or games on Game Pass which I'd have to pay for on PS. Also exclusives like Forza, Flight Simulator, Halo (although I play neither of those). Will likely see a lot more exclusives in the next few years.

PS5: Exclusives. Nothing beats these currently. E.g. Rachet & Clank, Spider-man, GOW, Horizon, Uncharted, etc.

I have a wireless KB & Mouse, but never had to use it with steam link.
I've played Nier for 40 hours now, of which half is probably on the Steam Link across 10 or so sessions and I've never had need to go out of big picture mode.
The only downside really is that my PS4 controllers don't work wirelessly with my TV. Luckily I have a 3m micro usb cable.

I agree on the PS5 exclusives, but I haven't bought a PS5 yet.

Had it plenty even with Steam and Nvidia's "superior" game streaming.

Sometimes have it where the screen is just black because the game opened up on the wrong display or something. Sometime it needs a firewall rule to be changed and will throw a pop-up for that.

Just the other day installed the original Mass Effect, Windows will throw a pop-up every time you open the game.

Pain. In. The. Ass.

Oh then there is also the fact that you need to keep display drivers updated and Windows updates. Nah, give me a console for the couch any day thanks.

This is the first game I really played on Steam Link. On my previous TV the input lag was too high.
But I can see it being a problem with those pre-game popup type games like ME and Stellaris.

Well the 1660ti does, but it's not really great at it.

No it doesn't. You need a 20XX or greater Nvidia GPU to support ray tracing.

The 16XX series does not support it - this is why they are still GTX GPUs and not RTX.
