Last I heard when Mweb took over WOL they stopped all new applications to the service and is only supporting existing users...

I still have my infosat become Icon become Tiscali Worldonline become Mweb.
Mweb still have them but not for new subscribers. Connection problems with dialup to Mweb is BA....AAAD.
That is why I am reluctant for now until the broadband issues become more anti Telkom before I am prepared to kiss it Gbye. Now back from ADSL 1024 to dialup + sat down. No Cap, No shape? Ok in speed. Can download over Finitecall over weekends
Next step is to take out 24/7 ADSL 192 for upload and Sat Download untill SNOtatta comes to my party, if ever! or Loop-Unbundling becomes a reality in 2008

I believe that satellite internet is a problem for services like online gaming due to the latencies involved when bouncing data between the earth station and the geostationary satellite. Evidently this latency affects VOIP traffic as well, although it is claimed that it is still usable.

Perhaps this is why it hasn't really taken off. I don't really know ... just guessing.

Correct. Ideal for browsing and downloads, Especially in rural areas or where Telkom performs at their best or where cables are history due to theft

Phoned Sainet, cost is R349/month plus a dish (if you dont have one), plus R1799 for a card which is for R128KB service which may or may not give that speed.
