From what I understand it covers for "wear and tear" and that's basically the differentiating factor between this plan and a service plan?

Is there anything else that sets it apart?

Actually, afaik, maintenance plans specifically DO NOT cover "wear and tear".

Wear and tear would be things like tyres, brake-pads, wind-screen wipers etc etc.

A maintenance plan generally covers mechanical failures (blown turbo's, cracked gaskets etc) but they generally will not replace something which breaks as a result of negligence on the part of the owner.

A service plan covers the costs of parts which have to be replaced at scheduled service intervals as directed by the car's service manual (such as the filters, oils etc) and also usually covers labour costs.

Covers everything aside from tyres and petrol?

Even wear and tear is covered (ie clutch) provided it isn't proved to be abuse. I was told that if - for example - my clutch went within the 100,000km period, it'd be replaced. However a second clutch would definately be investigated and possibly rejected.

A service plan covers your service and everything 'normally' carried out within. For example, a 'normal' 60,000km service may entail all filters, spark plugs etc etc - and its covered. Anything outside that norm is for your expense

Agree with Dolby, but you will get variations from make to make. If you buy a Subaru, you will not pay a cent for ANYTHING in the first 75000/3years, and that includes brake pads, clutch, wipers and so on. Your only cost is tyres and fuel.

Isn't that the same as BMW's Motorplan to 100,000km?

From my understanding (which isn't far off from Dolby or Fadzdas) is that maintenance plan covers all the the consumables while a service plan only covers the labour.

"A maintenance plan generally covers mechanical failures (blown turbo's, cracked gaskets etc)"

Is that not going to be covered by the warranty??
Basically looking at getting a 2nd hand car but a bit wary cos of inexperience with cars in general so want to cover as many bases as I can.
It seems as it sounds at the moment that if I was to get a car on maintenance plan + warranty there should be nothing to worry about?

A service plan will cover only consumables listed to be replaced at that service only.

So being really stupid - let's say the 60,000km listed a mandatory clutch replacement, the service plan would cover it and labour assosiated.

Basically, it covers what the manufacture expects to pay

Bingo ;)

I bought my Volvo at 18 months and still had 3.5 years of warranty/maintenance.

They've replaced my brake pads, my discs (due to my late replacement of the pads) and a cracked drive shaft no questions asked. They'll cover my turbo too - unless they discover I have software ... then sadly its my issue

Maintenance plan - Clutch

Hi All
Have any of you ever had issues with VW who are not willing to pay for clutch repairs (manual) even though it has a maintenance plan.
2015 model, 37000km.
They claim its abuse (1st time it has happened).
