What is a standard / norm PC nowadays ... ?

Hi,

I had slightly 'standard' PC back in July when I bought my P4 1.8ghz , 256RAM and 40GB HDD. Since then it's pretty much dropped and I've often lagged in terms of RAM/CPU and processor (bought a Celeron 2.0ghz about a year back).

I've now just bought a P4 3.0ghz HT, 768MB RAM with 200GB HDD. Am I back to standard now - and for how long?

STD PC now is 3.0GHz Dual Threaded, 1GB RAM, 120GBHD.
STD Sound is AWE32 based capable of THX and Dolby 5.1 encoding.
STD Video is All DirectX 9.0 features capable at 128 bandwidth.

So ... yer memory is lagging already...

My customers are getting around the area of a Sempron 3000+ on Socket 754, 512MB RAM, integrated Nvidia graphics, integrated sound, 120GB drive, 17 or 19" monitor. Mind you, my customers are typically home users with no serious needs.

because a home pc that does word internet stuff

semptron 2600+ 512 meg 80 gig hdd is all thats needed

Maybe consider 256MB ram, since Windows XP apparently works in some kind of limp mode with 128MB.

i think very entry level then semptron 2200+ 256 meg ram 40 gig hdd combo drive should be fine


ive got a friend who is running celeron 2.2 and 64 meg ram running windows 64 just fine

Is dual channel really that much quicker than stanard? I have a 512 and 256, and everyone tells me rather have two 256 or two 512. Is it a huge difference?

you can mix different sized memory sticks and still achieve dual channel mode easily.

each channel on a modern mb typically takes up two memory stick slots...as long as the total for channel A = total for channel B then you have dual channel mode...

so, 2 x 256 and 2 x 512 can give you dual channel, by fitting 1 x 256 and 1 x 512 to each channel.....at least, that is how the dual channel spec according to intel works. Dunno how the taiwanese work their stuff out... it changes more often than my underpants so I have stopped bothering keeping up.

if all you have is 1 x 256 and 1 x 512 then dual channel wont be available..
