Hi guys, I would like to know of your experiences once you get capped on ADSL.
How slow are things? Can you still do some gaming? International access and surfing?

What international??
It will take about a day to load a page, no jokes...
You can forget about gaming also and some local sites dont work either because they are linked to overseas sites.

So keep your 56k handy

The way i get around slow international is to use the saix proxy.
It is still slow (varies depending on time of day) but at least it is still usable.
ie i can check my gmail etc. and it feels basically the same speed as dialup.

It is veryslow...some good intl sites that (sometimes) load faster than local websites can be browsed like News.com, HardOCP.

how do you do this?>

I've been capped once last month when my account was hacked (still waiting for the Police to issue the Subpoena to Telkom to catch the person). My international was NON-existant. My mail servers are sitting in the USA, and I couldn't even download my email, which usually downloads quicker than my accounts with Tiscali and Telkom. My only way of getting around anything was to SSH into a secure server SA side, and bounce through from there to get my mail

but local site access is fine like at ADSL speeds or dial-up speeds?

dsl-cache.saix.net:8080 (I think that's the correct port)

You should be able to enter these proxy details in your browser.

Firefox: Tools > Options > General > Connection Settings > Manual Proxy Configuration

IE: Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings > Proxy Server

Haven't tried it myself and not sure if that is what protagon1st was on about..

;p

thanks... needed to know that if i were ever to get ADSL as to what cap i should look for...
