What is being transported here

Yesterday I had an unfortunate encounter of driving towards this.The blue light brigade flashing
lights and telling everyone to move over to the emergency lane, as this massive thing occupied 90% of both lines.

Can somebody with knowledge, enlighten me as to what is being transported here. Assuming this thing is
being moved from Johannesburg, must it be accompanied by traffic officers all the way?

I'm not sure what those containers are at the front. It looks like mobile housing containers. The back is a mobile crusher.

Those are Transformers for Eskom...

That truck often stops on the road just outside our suburb.
You can often see it parked there overnight.

My initial thought too, but the mirrors attached to the containers got me thinking otherwise.

Nope, those are all actually tractors - they all help to pull.
It's a multi-tractor vehicle.

This morning I photographed this combination before it departed from a town called Ermelo. The combination consists of four Pacific P12W3 (2x 500 & 2 x 800hp) with a Nicolas 12x12 beamed trailer. The load was a newly imported Toshiba 265t generator stator. Five (5) more is planned for delivery within the next twelve months. The load was measured from the ground to the ducting on top 7.4m.

Yes,correct heavy transformers,need lotsa horsepower and grip to move those things around...filled with lots of oil usually and metal.
