ive heard talk of D-side and E-side can anyone provide any info?

thanks

AFAIK D-Side of a wiring cabinet is the telephone or other service provider's end of the cable (Distribution side)... E side is the other side (internal)...
you patch d-side to e-side to connect internal points to the outside network.

The client side of the exchange patch is obviously not suitable or giving problems and they need to move closer to the exchange. Not sure exactly of BT's setup, but basically from the exchange the cable goes to a patch box in the neighbourhood (possibly a street corner nearby) where it enters the patch box as the "D Side", it is then patched to the "E Side" in the same box using a short piece of patch cable, and leaves the patch box underground or over a pole and enters the client's house... the E side is effectively the cable from this patch box to the client's house. There may also be more than one of these "patch" boxes en route from the exchange...

Effectively they need to investigate the cable from his place to the exchange to eliminate a fault... possibly a crossed wire - causing noise on the ADSL line.

For a full explanation have a look at this doc:

thanks very much I understand now....

basically wiring from exchange to 1st patch box is D-SIDE WIRING and wiring from the the PATCH BOX to END USER is E-SIDE WIRING...

In short, yes, but overall it they are broad terms and can be more complicated.

thanks,

sorry got it wrong way around
E-SIDE (Exchange Side) - Exchange to PCP
D-SIDE (Distrobution Side) PCP to Customers
