What does IT mean? Really?
Having taught for some years in a School of IT, which later became a Department of Business IT, I have always wondered about the tag ‘IT’.
Through all the classes and all the students, I maintained that ‘IT’ is such a broad field that it defies the diminutive two-lettered description.
Put another way, ‘IT’ only applies to a very small, very technical segment of a very, very large group of professional people. Think of all the people you know, and their specialty areas: databases, data modeling, business analysis, training, support, networking, development, reporting, artificial intelligence, telephony, industrial systems, graphics, web applications, scientific computing, systems management, hardware … and the list goes on.
What does IT mean to you?
This all from an innocent conversation on Facebook. I take full (and proud) responsibility for this post for Euan.
