What is Local Bandwidth good for?

IP-TV might save us there.... maybe not

Here is how I see it :
1.) Telkom guest account: works for
* http://games.saix.net and forum NB Not for SGS games servers though!
* http://www.telkom.co.za
* http://www.saix.net/
* http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/ (Any SAIX ISP users can check here)
* ftp://rrba-ip-dns-3.saix.net/ (Only slackware is hosted, unknown version)

2.) Local only accounts are good for
* Internet Banking
* This forum, and myadsl.co.za for ADSL,3G etc news
* Gaming on SGS servers all the 196.4.x.x servers
* News servers if on IS (See # below)
* Stuff like www.bidorbuy.co.za
* Most university sites and FTP's (http://ftp.up.ac.za/)
* Some other stuff (Greenlab, etc) I don't know much else !

3.) International for everything not in 1 or 2 :)

# Good for downloading all sorts of stuff, so I've heard, I'm in a SAIX account and I've heard SAIX news server is quite bad ! I must still confirm that though :)

Note: I just keep telkom guest account as a "dial-up" account which you learn how to setup when you get routesentry :) In all honesty I only really use it for SGS forums:)

That's my 2c !

I have been capped on Openweb for the last 2 weeks. No problem, but News24 and all their children sites takes ages to download, which leads me to believe that they are being hosted elsewhere?

Just checked news24, loaded in 10.31 seconds.

I'm using a Pre-paid local only SAIX account from Web-Africa, so news24 definitively local, as SAIX local only do not allow any international traffic.

I've got a 4096 line and I'm lucky to get 300kB/s. Probably depends on your location

It's probably the ads - if you're not already doing so you might want to consider getting some ad-blocking software.

ffs does every thread that deals with local bandwidth have to be derailed into a news server thread?
