I'm trying to figure out how much data online gaming uses. I'm coming across numbers as low as 20MB/hour, to one guy that said he ate through 8 gigs in two weeks while playing no more than 4-hours a day.

Obviously when games release their weekly maintenance patches and expansions your data will be eaten up pretty quickly.

This pertains to PC gaming as well, if it makes a difference.

Wow I recall uses about 50MB p/h Depends on what you do though. a 40man raid will use loads more, and question will use something like around 20 MB p/h only. So it depends.

Depends on the game. I think Dota2 is around 15-20MB/Hour. Then you can factor in updates like max 600MB a month?

But admittedly I don't care too much about usage these days. Have a very high cap account.

If you take a game like EVE for example, and you leave out the updates and your VOIP data usage, you can use as little as about 5MB/Hour.

At the moment I have access to uncapped, so it isn't an issue, but things may change.

If playing a couple of hours here and there is doable on a 5 - 8 GB package then I'd look at that, if not I'll say goodbye to my gaming days and just look a smaller package for studying and the odd Googling. At the moment, excluding holidays, the maximum I get is 2-hours a day during the week, but on weekends if I have nothing else going on I can put in about 6 - 12 hours over the course of a Saturday or Sunday.

Sure. I played WoW on a 2GB bundle. Easy.

Excluding patches ofc. So 8GB will be more than enough for most if not all MMO's.
