What is the difference?

that board is i5, x58 is i7. I am however confused why it says i7 support though. 860 maybe? would the 920 fit on it?

Not much performance difference, massive memory bandwidth difference because of the tri channel on i7 i think but nothing you would really notice in everyday chores :D.

Also is Gigabyte any good?

I like Gigabyte, really nice stuff. I have never had a problem with any of it.
I once read an article in PCF where they compared two graphics cards, one was a Leadtek and one was a Gigabyte. With the same GPU and ram, the Gigabyte kicked ass.

Some of the P55 chips are called i7s - it's very confusing.

Core i7 860(2.80G,L3:8M, rev.B1,95W) ALL
0304

Core i7 860S(2.53G,L3:8M, rev.B1,82W)
0609

Core i7 870(2.93G,L3:8M, rev.B1,95W)

An i7 920 definitely wouldn't fit on there - it's 1366 pins versus 1156. The 1366 chips were repurposed from server hardware for the performance sector. The difference between i7 and i5 is apparently based on whether they have hyperthreading - there you go work that one out :p

Other differences - turbo mode, dual channel vs triple channel ram.

Ya that is just stupid.

I thought i7 was socket 1366 and i5 was 1156. Geez interesting and very stupid hahaha. Talk about making it confusing.

Yeah got that thanks guys, it really helps chatting to you experts.
I just see the Gigabyte is so much cheaper than Asus and I cant see how the performance can be that much better for the more expensive

i7 8xx, i5 and i3 is socket 1156 (P55)
i7 9xx is socket 1366 (X58)

Gigabyte is awesome.

Marine show us the gigabyte board dude vs the asus and let's compare.

Ya brawl i check that now, really stupid though. I mean if someone buys a x58 mobo they are going to think a 860 will fit on it :D.

So basically the X58 Gigabyte is the way to go for my price.
Any idea on pricing for the GA-X58A-UD7 versus the ASUS P6X58DPREMIUM

Edit : I freaking love this forum

I used to be a heavy gigabyte supporter but i dunno of late asus has been pretty awesome. awesome boards and good pricing. Also gigabyte vga card pricing put me off them, sometimes like 2k more on the high end stuff. Could be rectron taking chances though.
