What is the likely culprit?

I bought one of these from pnp (halogen glass globe 70w) which, IIRC, on the box claims to be good for 2000+ hours. The filament blew on the first evening. I put it down as a one-off and so yesterday got another one and then it blew within around 15 minutes. The globe on both occasions was hot but I think that's normal for this type.

So what is going on here? Is this likely a bad batch of bulbs or could it be something more worrying like eskom's grid being out of whack?

My personal experience with the PNP branded globes (all types) is that they are all absolute shyte. I never buy them anymore. But this sounds like it might be some other problem.

Steer clear from their power adapters as well, flimsy crap that 2-prong plugs wiggle around in.
 
Ok so may be worthwhile getting a Eurolux brand or something not pnp branded basically.
 
Why would anyone buy these when you can use 1/8th of the electricity with LED and put out the same lumens?
 
I would gladly use LED but I can't ever seem to find one bright enough! It's for a lamp as the main lights are a bit much to use with a screen. The LEDs I've tried all end up being stupidly underpowered.

Stop comparing watts and only look at lumens.

Also you must be a @Thor wanting bright as the sun light because I’ve never experienced an underpowered LED in that form factor, quite the opposite.

No they suck. Best I've found is like half a candle power. In fact, I've wondered to myself what is even a practical application for such a dumb, dim POS globe. They're like those torches you get on knockoff Leathermans.

I have industrial-grade LED bulbs in the house.
It looks like a hospital, no why you can piss miss anymore.

That was the best decision ever. although... power consumption.
