Which game was the first to use cheats, for example IDKFA in Doom or DukeNuke'em ?

Try FireFox?

Another way to cheat is to load the program into a disassembler and take a look at the source code - usually you can figure it out especially if it's a text adventure game... :D

i used to use Game Wizard Pro, really good program for those needs :D
 
Prince of Persia.

I remember you had to add the cheat activator to the .exe string and you could skip levels with SHIFT + L etc.
 
Switching chess pieces when your opponent has to go to the loo :D
 
Cheats are there to help the programmer test. So cheats have been there since games were being programmed, I dunno when it became popular to leave the cheat in the finished product tho.
 
The earliest cheat that I can remember using was ....

prince.exe /megahits

which was for Prince Of Persia

Not the oldest cheat but one i remember from my nes days :)
