Hi

Does anyone know what this little contraption is? No other houses in the area have this thing hanging on the side of there houses.

So essentially it comes from the phone pole (thick cable as well) and from here it goes into the house! TELKOM don’t know what it is!

It’s not fibre or Vdsl I’m only adsl 2 I think max line speed on a good day is 7.5mb.

Thanks

Whose house? Yours ?

It's called a reservoir for the DSL so when the line drops or gets congested you don't notice the service drop quickly. Think of it as a little data capacitor.

There are ways how to actually use this data once your ISP suspends your service.

Really? Where can I get one?

I want the DSTV reservoir!
Also...those little portable WiFi boxes that you can (allegedly) take anywhere, change SIM cards in foreign countries and carry around to use everywhere. Are they for real? I paid off the rest of my contract with Telkom and want a probable explanation for the nearly R3000 they say I bought. One guy said they had a tape of my voice. I want to hear it. Another guy said I bought it from a store...
Anyway now I have nothing....

Just out of curiosity why is it only my house with this in the entire neighborhood? Oh and Telkom don’t know what it is apparently!

The fact that Telkom doesn't know what it is, is not indicative of anything. They have a whole lot of blunt crayons working for them. Oh the things I've heard them say over the years...

Or....You could always..you know.... Cut it and check what breaks

Looks like cables were split and joined inside that box. It's enclosed to protect itself from the elements.

They won't keep a traffic sniffer or eavesdropping device like that in the open.

My theory is that every Telkom office has three or four poorly paid stooges "working" for them and one guy who knows what he is talking about but rushes from office to office to help those persistent enough to demand answers. I found one (!) and asked. He admitted that he worked in four other offices every day. Sigh....
