What is traffic like in Centurion?

Yeah, I think I did say up there that I'm going to be working in Centurion East specifically ... close to Southdowns Estate, off John Vorster Drive, if that adds any value. Grubscrew, work is from 08:00 to 17:00 ... whatever happened to the days of that song, 'Working 9 to 5'? :D

Thanks for the heads-up Krycor, I had actually been wondering whether I should cut Centurion West out of my residential search, and based on a 30-90 minute delay I'll say hell yes!

Seeing as you mentioned Eco Park, do you mind explaining what Eco Park is? I've seen a stack of different sort of complexes all claiming to be in Eco Park, so I'm assuming that it's some sort of residential estate, only I don't know if it'd be worth trying to find a place there? Could be my most convenient bet, but I don't know about safety.

Where do you live now? Southdowns is on the gautrain bus rout.

Hiya, you maybe missed this recent update post I made.

Right now I live in Cape Town, lol. And yeah, I'm quite lucky in that John Vorster is on the Gautrain route, but I don't know if it's cost-effective or time-effective taking the bus just for a 1km hop down the road. At the start I'm gonna just take my car anyway, and based on my safety impressions I may try walking the route.

That's cool phoneJunky, nice to see not everybody's in full panic mode there :) You gave me a thought though: arranging a casual jogging group once I'm there, coz there's safety in numbers (plus it's more social anyway). I'm looking forward to exploring the area and meeting the locals!

I am from Cape Town and surroundings, and Centurion is definitely safer than Cape Town. I do not feel that safe when I wander out a bit though.

Oh, right....

I've visited Home Affairs in Sandton (although it's on the 'wrong' side of the Nelson Mandela bridge) and lived to tell the tale, so I've got some street cred. I'll draw the line at Hillbrow though, lol.

Haha, that's not Sandton...

Welcome to PTA(ish), go drinking at Elephants and make lotsa friends.

Thanks Scottulus ... probably a bad time to mention I don't do the drinking thing (personal reasons) ;) It's all good though, I'll find some sober fun to have in the area, or die trying.

If you are interested, I have a team entered in the Centurion Action Sports Action Cricket League. We play once a week and it's a lot of fun and keeps me fit. PM me if you want to join us.

If I go for a walk and a beluga whale falls from the sky and crashes on my head, I'll regret not wearing a helmet too. The line between reasonable precaution and 'the sky is falling' paranoia lies solely in probability. Unfortunately in South Africa, the probability of **** is always higher than anywhere civilized.

Looming out of the dark
Like arrows in the sky
I can't believe my eyes
But it's true"

Thanks for the cool offer Vinod, I may just take you up on it ... just let me get my bearings once I get there. I'm interested to see that place is only 4km away from where I'll be living, but in all honesty I won't be much use in any semi-serious cricket team. The last time I picked up a cricket bat was about 12 years ago, and I was in high school and we were on a beach :D If it's a more chilled 'see if you can whack a ball' vibe then I may give it a bash, no pun intended :)

Yip that's the elephant and friends. Work around the corner (well for a few days) so had many lunches there haha.. Good times

0.o Waaaait, you can't just drop that in there and leave it hanging lol. What does 'for a few days' mean? You got a new job from July?

**** just got a whole lot ****ing worse in this place... Live smack bang in the middle of the sinkhole at Jean/Gerhard that is not going to repaired for a while, and this one.

Jean/Gerhard sink hole not repaired yet? Wow. How long has it now been?

They had to wait for a new financial year in order to get the 60 million they need for it. The previous years budget was exhausted.

Scheduled only to be repaired by July 2018, work was only confirmed a few weeks ago as scheduled to start this month sometime, due to lack of budget before (only approved now).

So July 2018 scheduled probably equals sometime 2019 at best, in real world terms.

Thanks for the info. We used to drive M25 to get to my daughters place. Now use M 27. Must remember not to come through Irene in future along Jean ..
