What Is "Vumatel Aerial"?

I am moving to a new place and the only fibre option is this Vumatel Aerial. What exactly is this? Sounds like something similar to LTE / 5G. Is there no cable into the premises?
 
It's cabled.. just refers to the cables being put on electricity poles in the area instead of being trenched underground..

Back in the day when FTTH started gaining momentum in JHB there was a few providers. The main 2 being Vumatel and Fibrehoods. Vumatel was only doing trenched fibre with their Active Ethernet rollout. Fibrehoods was doing Aerial rollouts after they struck a deal with the municipality and city power to use their poles for the rollout.

Vuma wanted to own JHB in terms of FTTH and finally bought Fibrehoods and those rollouts became Vuma Aerial. It's a gpon rollout instead of active ethernet. Gpon is ideal for aerial roll outs because of less fibre to string from pole to pole.

Later on Vuma bought Mitchell's Fibre to rollout a low cost FTTH network in certain areas. This become Vuma Reach.

After that Vuma bought most of SADV's rollouts. These became known as Vuma Villages.

The terms have all just been simplified and merged.

You now have:

1. Vumatel which is their original AE network is only trenched.

2. Vuma Aerial which is Fibrehoods and Vuma Villages and it can be a trenched or aerial roll out but using gpon.

3. Vuma Reach which is Mitchells fibre and other Reach rollouts around the country and is usually a trenched roll out using gpon.
