What is wrong at home affairs?

Severely unqualified staff
Still a lot of corruption
A job which does not inspire staff enthusiasm
Shortage of qualified staff

Since when?

I got married in 2023, and when we went to get our marriage certificate printout from home affairs for a visa application last year, we could get the abridged certificate on the day, but had to apply for unabridged and wait for 3 months for it.

I went to home affairs this morning to apply for my own unabridged birth certificate, and again, I could get the abridged copy on the spot, but have to wait 3 months for the unabridged.

Ask for a vault copy and they have to find the physical document easily from 30-40 years ago as organized by people with no proper filing experience.

At our company we started filing which section, which shelfing unit and on which shelf, which box, and which page. We are still busy digitizing documents and have 20 people doing it and its taken them 6 years already. So if you wanted to find out where your items was before we would have to find all the documents in the various boxes to hand it to you.

I'd argue that 30-40 years ago people knew exactly how to file. It's today's lot that haven't got a clue.
