Windows 10 (for now) as everything just works, for me atleast.

Windows 11 needs stability fixes, hopefully 25H1 or H2 becomes as stable as W10, my main PC has been running the same Windows install since Q4 2019.

MacOS is nice but the price for the hardware is not justified and limited. Fine for work/productivity stuff but that's about it.

Linux, very limited for specific work. Average person can use it for some work, web, youtube, streaming.

Mac OS is objectively the best, just as long as you don't have to pay for it.

Or do professional 3d design.

Or architecture and CAD engineering.

Or upgrade.

Or play games.

Or don’t want it to turn it to a stove.

Windows 11, only because our software can't run on Linux, definitely not with wine either

Also love mac people. “Sure it can run revit, solidworks, 3ds etc. Just load it on a virtual machine loaded with windows. :D

This is literally the best solution though. Best of both worlds running on incredible hardware. Only use Windows when you need to

Got a question.

So I installed Linux Mint on a USB stick and booted it up.

Everything seems like it would work well and performance was great. The only thing was updating apps like Thunderbird didn't work but that might have been because I was on USB and space was low. It's great that it can import Windows Live Mail messages though.

So my question is - is there anything that Mint can't do that Windows can. Anything I should know before jumping in?
Before moving my wifes laptop over to Linux, I used an Ubuntu live disk to show her around. She said she wanted it. It was Ubuntu 22.04LTS and I added her to my Pro profile. She is comfortable with Libre Office on het core 2 duo laptop

Use all 3 mostly use windows.

Linux sucks with audio software among adobe and a plethora of games are still completely unsupported. The modding communities don’t even bother.

Mac is a gimmick and fashion product with the same lack in gaming support and the hardware is mediocre for the price. Still donno why 3ds max isn’t supported yet some people praise mac for graphic design yet fundamentally everything about windows supports it better including the hardware prices.

Windows still my gaming rig for the foreseeable future cause it works. The gui mapping is still descriptive and considering the run it had so far I’d say it’s most likely the most secure standalone os. Runs way harder on resources due to bloat and bad memory handling with its default apps but the baseline is still windows and functions well.

That absolutely is not the case anymore. Steam and Proton have absolutely changed the game where it comes to gaming.

Been using Linux for a while, PC crashed and needed a quick fix and didn't have access to another PC and it's the quickest thing to re-load. Just used phone and a USB.

It's okay for basic tasks but can get inconvenient. I'll go back to Windows eventually.

If you want to get life out of a very old machine rather than chucking it in the bin, Linux is the way to go.

Possibly :) Our first PC was a 486 (SX-33, if memory serves).

Man there was so much ****ery in those days between SX with math co processors disabled on some, but then having “special editions” with it enabled again basically making it a DX but not quite.

The upgrade cycle was also outrageous when you think in pure numbers, but going from a SX25 to a DX100 is actually like a 400% increase without even considering the FPU.

Now these days people get moist about 10%.

Mac OSX on personal computer.
Android on phone.

Hopefully OS X won't get too much ensh-tification from Apple. Most of the features they introduce are irrelevant. The major upgrades have been things like memory compression back in the Leopard days. The newest releases, while free offer no real value and are there for planned obsolescence. Thankfully there is Open Core Legacy patcher to help with that.

More ensh-tification. Basically just hype and no meaningfully useful features except for maybe people whose lives resolve around their iPhone and Mac in an ersatz religious way.

Useful for me would be, improved performance or security or perhaps compatibility with hardware and third parties.
