ISP for gaming?

1GB unshaped account.

HomeDSL 384 from Telkom.

Mostly used for local & international gaming. (WOW and WC3)

Minimal downloads.

I read unshaped is better for gaming. Is that true?

Thanks for the help!

If you want to play on international servers then yes unshaped is better, on local servers it makes no differece. Webafrica seems to be the most popular ISP. Just make sure that you getting a SAIX account if you useing it for international gaming.

For local, you can just get local prepaid from WebAfrica for like R30 a gig. For international, you'd want SAIX unshaped.

The benefit of Webafrica is that unused bandwidth is carried over to the next month. So in theory, your 1 gig WA account could last you 2 or 3 months depending on how much you play.

The Axxess account is not carried over. Unused bandwidth is forfeited.

So you do the maths depedning on how much you play.

I make use of the webafrica prepaid 1GB unshaped and it works out alot cheaper cause that 1GB last me about 3 months

Also on WA 1GB prepaid playing on international server. In month 2 of that Gig now, so works out cheaper in the long run.
Tried a shaped account for L2, but lag got the better of me and settled for the unshaped acc, works so much better and no more lag spikes.

I'm on SAIX shaped and play a lot of MMORPG. No issues for me, well until there are failures ;)

oh, and WebAfrica would be your choice :D

I play COH on international servers, unshaped is a must, it works out extremely expesive at each 45min-1hr game takes around 40-50 megs.

R125 / 1000 megs = 12.5 cents a meg
R0.125 x 40 = R5.00 per hour

Not really "extremely" unless we start comparing to what your opponents overseas are paying to play you. They getting it for free.

Try getting local servers and then you wouldn't need unshaped. Unshaped is expensive, but I have played international Battlefield with a shaped account from @lantic and Cybersmart...had no problems (Except for punkbuster :p )

For games that require low latency, like Quake etc, go with Unshaped DSL 1024.

But for games like WOW which don't require such low latency levels, you might as well keep your 384 shaped line.
