Aaah thought it was to good to be true, no way to get firework + lightning + comet at the same time

Still would love to be able to take shots like that (wide)

Got a Canon 450D and dont care about zoom and 2.8+ should be ok as well

Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM (AOV 114.5 to 75.7°) or 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM (102.4º-63.8º) would get you pretty wide. :)

Or buy a panorama camera. :)

I think it is very possible to have captured the +/- 10 images, used to make that panorama, at around the same time. Must have been awesome, if it went down like that. He used a fairly wide-angle lens to capture the images.

One more thing... No filters can be attached to the Sigma 8-16mm. Your lens is never protected while shooting.

Hmmmm :(

On filters do anyone still use polorized filters?

I normally keep UV filters but that's more to protect the lens than doing anything else

Don't really see much need for a CPL when shooting these days. Just adds noise and increases shutter speed... plus, they do not fit on my favourite lens :)

From the photos it looks like it comes with a petal hood, is that then an optional extra?

No. The hood is a fixed part of the lens. Let me rephrase... You can never have anything completely covering the glass while shooting :)

Have you tried stitching pics from a wide angle lens? I've never been able to get a realistic looking result. Perspective distortion and uneven lighting made it look terrible.

PS: some nice pics you got there QT

Can't you use a step-up ring and a oversized filter (to avoid vignetting)? Or are there no filter threads even on the lens?

Ok - I get how it would increase shutter speed but by itself increase noise?

I've seen a video where a guy did some DIY job on the 12-24mm Sigma for full frame. Looked like an expensive exercise if you don't have the right tools... I'm happy shooting without.

Had the problem on my Sony A-100... which was very noisy already. When turning the CPL to get the rich dark blue sky, I would have even more excessive noise at ISO100.
