I've finally got some cash together to start building my new setup after moving ate all my moneys.

Plan on getting the MoBo and RAM this month then get CPU next month (gonna have to stick with my 7800GTX for a while :() , but I need a little help as I'm a bit behind the times with hardware these days. :o

I'm thinking of getting the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L not really a super huge gigabyte fan but this board looks quite nice and is in my price range. Also had a look at the ASUS P5K but i'm not too sure about that one.

This is going to be used mainly for gaming and I'm not much of an over clocker so its over clockability (is that even a word?) is not too important.

Any other good boards in that price range that I've missed? (want to keep the price to around R1200-R1300)

The Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L and ASUS P5K are both excellent boards, and fyi both OC very well.
I'd go Gigabyte, as my Asus P5NeSLI takes a good couple seconds to show post and startup is pretty slow, whereas a Gigabyte budget system here at work boots up SO quickly, and it has an old Celeron!!!

Both are great IMO.

Wouldn't it be worth spending the extra R200 (give or take) to get the DS4L with dual DDR2-1066?

Bwahahahahaha, classic handle there Knobshine, first time I've seen it.

I would also go with Gigabyte as they have a 3 year warranty. I'm not sure about Asus.

No dude, ddr2-1066 is not much of a performance boost anyway, same thing between 667 and 800, minimal difference at best.

Hmm, thanks for the responses guys.
So you reckon that the DS4L isn't worth it for just the memory difference?

Any 2nd/3rd/4th opinions? :P

Looks like it's gonna be a gigabyte at least.

You will not notice the difference in memory speed at all, only if you benchmark and compare, but it's not always directly relatable to real world situations.
If you're not going to OC your CPU, then save as much cash for the best CPU you can afford.
The GA-P35-DS3L is the best board for your situation IMO. The Asus too, just like I said, mine takes a long-ish time to startup, even compared to a budget Gigabyte setup.

Cool, thanks for the advice. Looks like I'm gonna go for the DS3L.
