My ADSL contact with telkom is finally up. Want to move over MWeb, but will need to get a new modem cos I believe the Telkom one supplied is network locked. Need some help on what modem to buy. 2 requirements:

1) needs to have Wifi with good coverage. Current telkom modem's wifi drops when I am at the other end of the house.

2) must not break the bank

Also, to be used with an uncapped line, so it would be nice if I could set up some network to share files or an ext hard drive and bonus to share a printer

Equipment that will be sharing:

*Pc connected via cable
Adhoc wifi connections:
2 laptops
2 iPads
PS3

Bing bing bing bing ggggggggg dong dong bzzzzzzzzz beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

;)

However, if you're referring to your router it probably isn't locked. If it is, then just do a firmware flash. You'll lose your connection settings but can use it with any ISP.

Guess router would be the correct term

that's all I understood - going to google how to do a firmware flash now

Thanks

I could be wrong but I doubt the router is network locked, even if it is you can get around that.

You can try using one of the free 1GB cybersmart or afrihost accounts to test with.

Isn't it illegal for any communications device in SA to be network locked? Am guessing you have that Mega something or other?

EDIT: If you need any help and want to try out Mweb, PM mweb guy and he'll sort you out

It's usually a pin hole or similar that you stick a paperclip in and press for 10 seconds.
