What notebook to buy

I am looking for a new notebook for my girlfriend.

I would think something with a core 2 duo processor and around 4Gb RAM.
Around 15" is large enough and a graphics upgrade would be a plus.

What brands, models are good in the above spec range.

No more than around R9k

Any ones to look at competing in the R6k range?

Buy her a pink Hello Kitty Vaio with backlit keyboard. Girls love those OR a Macbook.

Make sure the screen has lots of pixels. 1440x900 is probably in your price range. I'd sacrifice RAM/CPU power for a better screen...
