This was a very refreshing change of pace:

I bought a Microsoft webcam on Geeks.com on Wednesday, on special for a very good price. Incredible Corruption sells the camera alone for R1,200 and I got it on Geeks.com for R400 along with a wireless optical mouse.

The transaction went without a hitch and the item was delivered within 48 hours to the USA address that I specified. A relative will bring it over next week.

Why can't SA online retailers deliver this kind of service? I have bought several items online over here and there were issues with each and every one of them.

It takes at least a week to deliver the item that they are advertising IF they can source it somewhere. It can also happen that they just plain steal your money as happened with Sybaritic/Thirt when I cancelled an order they were not able to deliver after two weeks.

Note: For those of you that are interested, Geeks.com do ship to South Africa as well. Strangely they omitted SA from the list of countries when you are registering an account, but I just specified my true billing address along with the country as being 'Swaziland' and the system did not object to this.

If I remember correctly, South Africa did however appear on the list of shipping destinations.

Thats strange, I've made many successfull online purchases in SA, never had any issues or my money stolen. Worst that has happened was something marked as "In stock" ended up not being.

It's all going to depend on what local shopping site you're taking into consideration.

Most local online retailers, import and the chances of your goods getting here in 48 hours - not likely and most retailers clearly display their delievery times.
If goods are in stock, you're likely to get delivery in 24 hours if you like

As for pricing. Mmm Rand vs USD = FAIL.
Don't expect local guys to come in cheaper with imported goods.

You got a good deal and kudos, but good deals are to be found everywhere ;)
Also you're shipping to the States, so you're saving on cost there.

But hey, a good deal is a good deal. ;)

Amazon.com was the best online shopping experience I've had, delivered to my US address on time as well.

Depending on what you refer to, I've had much cheaper prices (20%) and better customer service elsewhere. :)
