What Price a good cricket bat?

yeah no point in spending money if he sux, the internet is a harsh harsh place :D

not sureo n prices anymore but there's the cricket shop opposite wanderers cricket stadium. They are a bit pricey but they can give some good advice and also quality bats.

Sportsmans warehouse have some.. those are the only 2 i would trust hey. Dion and Game all make k@k.

Depends on his skill level and the type of bat he enjoys. LH, SH (probably SH if he's not a 7ft giant) and the weight, feel and balance is important. I find a cricket bat is a very personal choice - probably not something you'd want bought for you (well I wouldn't at least).

Bat prices though range from R500 to R5000. My last bat cost R1900 from Sportsmans Warehouse. Gunn and Moore...

+1

However, if this is really what you want to get him, why not take him to a place and have him pick a bat. He gets the gift, you get to buy it and you spend some quality time.

Good point, give him a Sportsmans Warehouse gift card for +/- R1000
and let him decide, it’s a very personal thing as well

Good idea... I'm actually asking for the guy that sits next to me, he asked me for an idea. Thanx all

I would let him (or her) select their own bat. My bat is my prize possession!! If he is a top order batsman, he will take extreme pride in his own bat and would want to have one of his choice. Set him a limit and go with him. Stand back and watch him choose - you will enjoy it as much as him!

My dad did this with me (twice) and I have done it with my son. It is a memorable experience.

GM Purist 5star nothing compares :D
+1 but it comes at a nice price. Get him a GM 3 STAR pre-knocked in bat. Will set you back about R1500. P.s Sportsman W and L F Palmer at wanderers only care about sales and not what they sell. Your best bet is a place like Ball aand Turf in Alberton

GM is at the moment the leader imo.

Some kookaburras are also great but they are hard to find at a good price.

Also the Slazenger V1200 pro is not a bad bat :)

Where is a good place and what price to pay for a (club) cricketer for a bat in JHB?

Its a present

i had a hero 808 , cost me about R2000 when i was in Grade 9. Lasted me right up until January where i used it while on Cape Town Cricket tour...

i must say , the lads from Wynberg Boys high nearly broke my bat ! yo, talk about fast bowling :D

I bought a Duncan Fearnley for R700.. its for action cricket but I think it will be good against a hard ball.

I see the players are all using Puma and Reebok bats, they must be good unless they just sponsored. SA players use GM and Gray Nicolls, excpet for Amla he uses BAS...

Reebok bats are an actual brand (Mr Price sports & Reebok stores stock them), I think Puma & Nike have just sponsored some players & "rebranded" the bats

My bat career went DF Colt > GM (broke in 1st net session, so exchanged it) > Open Championship (Hudson & Kirsten used them, now you never see them anymore)

I was a SS (Stuart Surridge) fan. Then Gunn & Moore. Of late we are making some very good bats in SA. My personal favourite is the B&S (Bellingham & Smith) manufactured just outside PE using imported willow.

You'd be surprised what bats the top guys are using! Look carefully at the shape/design/brand and then see if you can buy the same in any shop... Because of their sponsorships they put their sponsors' stickers on their personal favourite bats, e.g. Slazenger stickers on a G&M.
