HI ,
I am a Goblin warlock (32) and was wondering witch professions would be best for my character ?

I think it has a lot to do with what you intend to do with the character when you reach max level. If you are in a raiding guild and plan to raid the professions would differ form if you just want to make loads of gold.
I would suggest tailoring and probably enchanting at the moment, but if you are looking to make money then maybe one of the gathering professions.

Well I do intend to raid alot level 75 + and gold comes from raids and items so ja ... so tailoring and enchanting you say ?

Yup, tailoring & enchanting are a good mix for a caster / cloth wearer, and from Northrend content onwards you pick up tons of extra cloth from mobs with the extra little salvaging skill you train.

You also get extra drops in any of the new Cataclysm content, although it is no where stated specifically.

Personally I would go two (but at least one) gathering profession while leveling. Stock pile the material for when you want to power level a profession at lvl 85. Or make lots of gold while leveling through selling the material to high levels that power level a profession.
Till level 70 you dont get extra cloth drops from tailoring, so if that is your eventual aim just store all the cloth you find while leveling and when you hit 70 power level it to level ~350, then get extra cloth while doing Northrend quests.
Don't bother thinking you will use your profession while leveling, as AH prizes for crafted gear is way lower than the material required.

I will also not recommend someone to make enchanting on their first char, it is in my opinion the most expensive profession to level up. It is nice to disenchant all the quest rewards you receive, but will still cost you plenty of gold to level this up.

Herbalism for me is a great money maker and easy enough to drop it at a later level to pick up something new. At 85 I make well over 1k gold per hour farming herbs and selling them relatively cheap on the AH, I just hate farming but this is even doable for me. Lower level herbs such as goldthorn makes lots and lots of money as well.

The point I am trying to make is don't be guided by what you want to achieve end game, professions can easily be retrained as needed. Make your money and get the best of everything not just one profession. Then at 85 look at what profession have the best bonus for you class, and can still make you money without having to put much effort into it.

Good advice by werries.

If it's your first character, level using gathering professions. You get XP now when you "gather" and it will save you money.

Anycase, the items you can craft will seldom beat what you can get from questing or dungeons.

First ask yourself if its for gold. or raiding.

Raiding i would suggest JC and Enchanting / tailoring , these are fairly cheap to level. only around 35k for both to max. and about 20k to the required point you need. ( Leveling tailoring first and DE'ing all the items may make it much less , but that would require you to create gear not bags and all that stuff. )

Gold i would suggest herbalism and mining , these are easy professions to level and u can simply fly around , watch tv , an herb/mine , where as with skining you actually have to kill mobs unless you get lucky and find a person who is killing at a nice speed. OR your on a high pop server.

also gathering professions are a good way to make gold to level crafting professions. its alot more work , but it works out easier in the end.
Inscription is a terrible profession as it does not provide as much buffs as others. as is engineering unless you wont get far in raidin then its ok for the helm.

My main character(warrior)has mining and enchanting. I levelled with mining and skinning.

I have alts that do alch/herbs, jc/mining, blacksmith/mining and herb/inscription. All these professions except blacksmithing are at max level. My goal is not make loads of gold, but to provide flasks, gems for raiding on my main. Occasionally, i do a clearout of mats that i have excessive amounts off, and can make loads of gold. The last time, i made about 4k. The only thing I need to buy is the leg enchant, and I only buy mats and get someone in the guild to make it.

I am never short of cash, nether do I have a zillion gold, but then what do actually need so much gold for?

I have maintained a cash balance of about 7k for a few months. When I feel like it, I invest in boosting a prof. Recently spent 2k on metal to get blacksmithing to 515 from another 490 or something.

With the daily quests these days and a few instance runs, it is easy to make enough money to sustain a main character for raiding.

If you plan on raiding with any amount of dedication, consider alchemy.
Double flask duration = win by any length.

I'm also currently making VERY decent chunks of coin from selling potions.
