WBS have defended their actions today by implying that a relatively small number of "abusers" have been responsible for the network degradation since the launch on the first of april. They have justified their actions by claiming they had no choice but to suspend these accounts so as to protect the majority of users.

On the surface this may seem plausible however its another lie.

During prelaunch these same "abusers" were using the network in exactually the same way as they are now and yet the network showed non of the signs of degradation that we have seen over the past few days.

I also cannot believe that suspending 70-100 accounts out of a user base of 3500 can result in telkom local speed test going from ~60kbps to ~1000kbps, no matter how much these users were "degrading" the network.

I can only conclude that the bandwidth management system was not tested during the prelaunch and once activated was totally unable to cope with the demand and it not only failed to throttle capped users but also degraded the network for all users. The frenzied activery by louis and co was an attempt to fix the bandwidth management but this proved impossible. By now WBS was deep in trouble as the lack of service was starting to impact on sign ups and cancellations. The descision was therfore taken to switch off the manager.

However WBS knew that as soon as this was "found out" there would be a rush to download so decided to scare people into not downloading and at the same time get rid of top downloaders. Hence the actions today.

A few more points if 70-100 people have been suspended, then we can conclude that the majority of users have not come anywhere near their cap. ie on the whole the load on the network should have been light - where did all the bandwidth go?? It did not go anywhere the bandwidth manager prevented us all from accessing it.

Anyway my theory.

15 MB/s line being chewed by 70-100 users at half speed = 500kb/s * 70 = 35000.
That's not 15 000 000 (15 Mb/s).
Even at full speed = it's only 70 000 kb/s.
Yip - not plausable.
*Not accurate*

500kbps x 100 users = 50Mbps = 6.25MBps
nearly 50%
with 1000kbps - 13MBps.

It looks to me like WBS took a leap, where they should have taken baby steps, They went from pre launch to launch. I think it would have been better if they had a "bandwidth managemant test" period prior to the launch

70 users * Avg 50KB/s = 3500KB/s
seconds in a day = 86400 * usage (3500KB/s)
= 302400000 KB a day
or 295312.5Mb a day
or 288.39GB a day

lets take the same equation with 100 users
70 users * Avg 50KB/s = 5000KB/s
seconds in a day = 86400 * hog count (3500KB/s)
= 432000000 KB a day
or 421875Mb a day
or 411GB a day

pretty hectic bw usage per day. their fault? no? wbs fault yes.
b1tch? yes.

i'll tell you what happened, i bent over and WBS f*cked me

Yeah, but to be honest, you'd been lubing up all month.

52GBs of Vaseline goes a long way. :D

hey stuff the "abusers" theory. I cant even connect properly!!! I still disconnect every 2 minutes for about 30 seconds. You guys are using my cap as far as i am concerned. I am one of many who cant even connect, so therefore keep in mind that there are a lot of people that arent using their cap. Therefore abusers are'nt really a problem!

They've no bandwidth to spare in there little piggy bank. I've been hearing loads of story that IBURST have gone way over bored selling WBS account, Im sure they didn't expect it to go that well.

They Should of purchase more bandwidth b4 Launch even, what I hear they've done have pipe line from IS to also have bandwidth
