WBS have defended their actions today by implying that a relatively small number of "abusers" have been responsible for the network degradation since the launch on the first of april. They have justified their actions by claiming they had no choice but to suspend these accounts so as to protect the majority of users.
On the surface this may seem plausible however its another lie.
During prelaunch these same "abusers" were using the network in exactually the same way as they are now and yet the network showed non of the signs of degradation that we have seen over the past few days.
I also cannot believe that suspending 70-100 accounts out of a user base of 3500 can result in telkom local speed test going from ~60kbps to ~1000kbps, no matter how much these users were "degrading" the network.
I can only conclude that the bandwidth management system was not tested during the prelaunch and once activated was totally unable to cope with the demand and it not only failed to throttle capped users but also degraded the network for all users. The frenzied activery by louis and co was an attempt to fix the bandwidth management but this proved impossible. By now WBS was deep in trouble as the lack of service was starting to impact on sign ups and cancellations. The descision was therfore taken to switch off the manager.
However WBS knew that as soon as this was "found out" there would be a rush to download so decided to scare people into not downloading and at the same time get rid of top downloaders. Hence the actions today.
A few more points if 70-100 people have been suspended, then we can conclude that the majority of users have not come anywhere near their cap. ie on the whole the load on the network should have been light - where did all the bandwidth go?? It did not go anywhere the bandwidth manager prevented us all from accessing it.
Anyway my theory.
