What`s the difference between the 4Ogb PS3 and others?

Hi guys.
I`m considering getting a PS3,but 40gb (for the obvious price reasons ),question is;what is/are the differences between the 40gb and the 80gb upwards?

well there is no difference other than HDD size. Only different model was the 60GB which had backwards compat, 4usb ports and card reader. 40, 80 and 160GB lack that and are smaller than the 60GB. Also some of the newer models have the 65nm chipset and consume less power. I say save a bit and get the 80GB it comes with a Dual Shock 3 while 40GB comes with regular SIXAXIS which doesn't vibrate. Sony screwed up at the beginning but they making up for it now.

The SIXAXIS is much more fun on certain games. Solidus is right about the chipset.
The newer chip runs cooler as well.

Also the old console i.e. 60GB had dedicated hardware to run PS2 titles and Sony had intended to have software emulation performing this function on the newer consoles.

Dont know if this is still in the pipeline...

Nope.

Card readers and the 4 USB slots were discontinued starting with the 40GB units.

The only units in production now are the 80GB and 160GB.
In fact, signs are, they discontinuing the 80GBs as well.

What would a good price be for pre-owned 40GB, 60GB & 80GB PS3 consoles be? Looking to start selling them along with Nintendo Wii consoles from next month onwards, stock permitting.

Will also launch Nintendo DS & PS3 repairs. PSP services is going into the bin

You could buy a 40GB and swop out the HHD for a 120 or 250GB. Theres a link on facebook that shows you how to do just that.

If you from cape town. Send a message to Postmanpot on the forum. He quoted me just R998 for a 320GB HDD. I expect a 120 to be just over R500 just need to know where to look.

Expect to pay bit more for the HDD since its the ones found in laptops and not the trusty 'ol brick you plop into your PC.

Get yourself a cheap 40Gb and replace the HDD immediately. You'll soon be filling it up with demos and installs and stuff from PSN and you don't wanna haveta do that after you found your 40Gb is full
