Hi, just a quick question. I need to replace shocks on my car. What would you guys recommend between Gabriel, Armstrong or Monroe? I had Gabriel’s before on my previous car and didn’t like them at all. I’ll be fitting them on an Opel Astra.

Thank you:confused:

I also have an Astra (2001 CS 1.6) and when I replaced the shocks (was Gabriel all round) they put in two Monroes in front and two Armstrongs at the back.

The ride is a bit better than on the Gabriels but it could just be cause the gabriels was worn pretty badly.

I had gas riders on my sentra and it started making some funny noises only two months after I had them installed. So I don't know about gas riders :(

Probably coil squeaks. Just have a lube service done and mention that the shocks squeak.

Sweet - my car is going for its 150 000km service next week and even after fitting the new Monroes and Armstrongs I still had squeaks. So I guess it is the coil springs then - I'll have it checked out, thanks for the tip Juggy.

Thread Revival

The initials suggestions here are a bit old - any new recommendations for shocks.

I have had Gabriels but I have replaced them twice in the back, once in the front all in the space of 3-4 years with including an out of the box failure. (2002 POLO)

I'm looking for any suggestions, since they need to be replaced...again.

Quiet a few people have been complaining about the quality of Gabriels for a while. Monroe would be your best bet. Also have a look at Kayaba. Its the OEM brand that's fitted on lots of new cars at the factory.

Kayaba would be the best option, second option would be Monroe Sensa-Trac.

I changed from Kayaba to Sensa-Trac and the Kayaba's were better. The other stuff I would not even touch.

Monroe has good service though, I had problem with the Monroe shocks after they were fitted and I gave them a call, met a rep at a dealer and he confirmed something was not well and they replaced all the shocks at no cost but that is what you should expect.

Does any of you guys know which shock absorber brand does a toyota tazz come with?

If it's a Japanes car the OEM is probably Kayaba. Kayaba is an OEM manufacturer for most Japanese car companies and they make bloody good dampeners (or shock absorbers as they are incorrectly referred to which are actually your coil springs).

2011 Hyundai Elantra 1.6 GLS needs rear shocks

I only use Gabriel gas riders.

My Hyundai needs rear shocks. The car is riding a bit hard and I need a pair of shocks who offer me a more softer comfortable ride. I am not a speedster and drive moderately. Can anyone assist with a choice? What about Monroe?? Thanks.
