I actually experience the same, I'm a sucker for not charging, or I charge less than I should. I have a friend that constantly tells me I'm a total pushover, but I'll learn, this thread alone taught me some stuff already,

"if you are reading this and know who I am in person, and if I have done a job for you before, no more freebies okay?" LOL :D

teraside, I think I'll subcontract the job to you and put a 25% mark-up on your quote :D Just leave your phone-number with the client...

Hey, don't be such a wise ass okay :D LOL You can put a 50% mark-up and it won't put a dent in my quote, ROFL!

Charging close friends or family members is just greedy.

You soon find out who your close friends and family actually are.
Actually, I don't charge my Mom / Dad, but sister in law makes lots of money and I end up doing this kind of thing in spare time, she is more than willing to pay. In the same way, I don't think twice about paying her to draw up my building plans - its just one of those unspoken things... That's always the call of the one ofering service IMO. Depends on the relationship.

Its best to charge R150 per callout (within 30km from your place), and around R250 (if within 50km). Then u can setup or do work for around 30min.. (anything that needs fixing that takes longer than 30min.. is extra labour).. So u charge R150/R250 + R150-R250 per hour + extra costs(bandwidth usage, any cd's you needed to burn for them, or printing costs or whatever is extra).. so end bill will look liked this

R150 Callout
R150 Labour
R100 Anti-Virus Updated
(R400 minimum)

Bull, if you have a large family/friend circle you end up working for them for free for every little fancy and have no spare time left for yourself or family. You charge them cheaper but charge them something for your time. Quite odd how family are prepared to pay $$$ for someone else to help if you cannot or do not, or buy a PC at R16000.00 if you could have done the same for R10000.00 with just some cash to spare to pay for the beers and braai while they visit and have fun, while you work, and then they ask to somma install and "fix" the PC to their liking, adding games, office, Zip, Antivirus, Music, etc and do not forget the free training course while you are at it.

It does not end there, then comes the TV, fridges, electronics, cell ......it just wont end unless you charge or refuse!

If you do it for free the next visit will be a friend of a friend expecting it for free because your brother or family brought or referred him!
