Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying a 2005 Audi A4 2.0Tdi Multitronic. It's got 97000 Km on the clock.

What should I look out for? Is there anything problematic with them?

Watch out for Turbo problems. Normally its a blown fuse in the brainbox. Expensive services. Otherwise very good car.
 
and being a Tdi, I would check out the injectors. Those are pricey little buggers.

Dunno how one has those checked though.
 
you cant find a slightly newer model with less kilo's on?

whatever you do, don't rush into it, look around, get insurance quotes, find out what regular services will be more or less etc.

Go manual. The older multitronic boxes can be problematic and will cost you 10's of thousands to fix.
 
I'd stay away from older auto/tiptronic/multitronic gearboxes if I were you, as they are known to be problematic and will cost a fortune to repair of something goes wrong.

Does the car have a full service history at the agents?
 
Few friends of mine work in the auto industry, their words to me was: Unless you love them, don't buy them.

Cars are overpriced. Services are overpriced. 2nd hand value is low.

Well that is what they said. I've never really been an Audi fan, so don't know anything about their cars really. So yes, I guess Audi in general.

How expensive is out of motor plan services?
 
Multitronic box, Turbo, and Injectors. To be blunt... Audis are awesome though, understated sporty elegance...
 
Like the other guys said, the biggest issues are the Injectors and the turbo. Unfortunately other than taking the car for a test drive and "feeling" that the turbo boosts properly and doesn't have excessive smoke I don't know what to check for.

I'd say rather get a 320d but I'n a BMW fan and more than a little bias. I myself drive a 320d and I'm very happy with it.

Oh okay, well, if it were me, I would not buy an Audi without a maintenance plan or warranty.

My dad is an Audi nut, and he has had a few nightmare bills along the way.

We even had one that burst into flames :eek:
 
Have a 2002 1.9Tdi manual 230000km's, got it new failed to start twice in history due battery only. Out of warranty I buy my parts from Goldwagen. My next car will also be an Audi

No I believe he said he wanted an Audi. Btw, as hard as you want "VAG" to be some sort of slur it's really not working so try something new, mkay? :whistle:

Agreed, like most turbos/turbodiesels when they go wrong they can go wrong properly and cost an arm and leg to fix. I nearly traded in on an RS4 the other day until I saw it the maintainence costs outside of the freeway plan (which would have ended in Dec)
