Why don't places like Seagate and WD make SSD's?

If SSD's become cheap won't WD go bankrupt?

Well bf4 loads forever,so like the others said ,ssd seems like the way to go

SSD did not really help with loading BF4 faster, but that could just be my rig

But all other apps loads faster, even windows boots up in a few seconds

Seagate has the 600 series which is based on the LAMD controller along with 19-nanometer Toshiba Toggle-NAND flash. They recently bought out LSI and may be in a position to use custom Sandforce hardware together with 16nm Micron flash memory to get a foothold on the M.2, PCI-E and SATA Express market. Competing in the current SATA-focused market is a nightmare for them because their production is nowhere near the size of, say, Intel. Even ADATA walks all over them in terms of volume and market reach, but they are fantastic drives nonetheless.

Western Digital doesn't make consumer SSDs, but they have been known to sell Marvell controllers and Micron flash in their own branded products to enterprises. The WD Black 2 has a 1TB HDD along with 120GB of flash storage to do with what you please. To be honest, they're so far out of their league that trying to enter the market would need them to sustain heavy losses and introduce something which can disrupt the current SSD landscape.

And considering that Samsung is the first to stacked 3D V-NAND that works as advertised, I think that boat sailed for WD already.

I have a similar PC, same CPU, just better RAM, the EVO motherboard, and weaker Graphics card.

The 3 best upgrades I made was my case, SSD drive and power supply.

I had an old handle case that was to small for my Coolermaster V8 CPU cooler, so after getting a new case, I could finally fit the the thing in the case. the V8 is a bit of a overkill, but I guess it is quieter the the other CPU coolers.

Upgrading your SSD makes a huge improvement on you PC start up time, and just installing and running windows related stuff. Did not do much for my games. Do not go for anything below 120gig. I have the Samsung Evo 840 and it works nicely. Mine was R1400 but I think it is cheaper now.

I had a Sonic 500W power supply, and I upgraded it to a Silent Pro M2 720W. There was a huge difference in the amount of sound my pc made.


8 gig ram is still enough, only need to get more if you want to run multiple VM's on your pc.

You probably already have a good case, if you are patient, wait for the SSD's to get cheaper, or you can also get one now, but noting smaller then 120 Gig. Power supply is not a big issue, but if you have one that is old or want something more quieter, then a power supply could work. I took the Silent Pro M2 720W because it was the cheapest silent and modular power supply on the market.

Because the core technologies in SSDs belong to the silicon foundries, and Seagate/WD could never compete with the owners of large fabs.

There's plentsch years to go before solid state threatens winchester drives, except maybe in the low end. Seagate and WD know exactly what's happening and love the way data is exploding.
