Hi all

Well my rig is a
Asus p67m
I5 2500k
R9-270(non x)
Ddr3 1333mhz 8gb (for some reason system keeps it at 1066mhz)
1tb seagate hdd

I want to see what i can upgrade ..but i read that a lot of people are saying to keep at 2nd gen til at least ddr4 boards and chipsets arive ?

So what would be a nice upgrade? I game a lot, mainly bf4..get 50-80fps on ultra on most maps..

Right now there doesn't seem like there's anything much needing upgrading besides your HDD to SSD.

The RAM issue looks like your BIOS needs updating to get it running a 1333mhz. There should be a slight performance difference between 1066mhz and 1333mhz.

Budget?

If you get 80fps ultra @ 1080p then just get a SSD

If no budget then just upgrade everything, because why not.

Or you could just wait, Broadwell is here Q4 2014.

Get a decent aftermarket cpu cooler and overclock your cpu. Then get a ssd.

As others have said, just get a decent SSD.

Why upgrade? Wot's not working right?

If it's all OK, take the mates out for a night at the pub, or plonk the cash into RSA Retail Bonds.

Well bf4 loads forever,so like the others said ,ssd seems like the way to go

Overclocking my cpu, will this increase my game performance?
Yes it should. The whole point of having a k version of your cpu is the unlocked multiplyer for overclocking. You can even try a 200mhz or more overclock on the standard cpu cooler and see how it goes.

Get a more effective air cooler. You can overclock the i5-2500K on your current board, but the low amount of VRM phases means you'll only be able to push 4.0GHz at stock voltage safely. SSD-wise, you'd have to spend a small fortune to replace your existing drive. If you're find with boot and game loading times currently, you don't need to buy into one just yet. When a 512GB drive pops up for R2000 at the end of the year, though, get that.

You're already getting good frame rates, so why bother overclocking?

You also don't have to replace your whole ssd, just get a smaller 128-256 that you can load your OS and a few games/apps on.

Get a Cooler master Hyper 212X, some decent thermal paste and overclock your CPU.

is that how quick the prices are going down on ssd's?

That's what I'm expecting, yeah. The Crucial MX100 512GB is already at R3000. Samsung's 850 512GB (when it becomes available) will hit those prices easily as 3D V-NAND production scales up. Micron is flooding the market with their Crucial MX100's. If Corsair can negotiate a cheaper price for their Toshiba-sourced flash in the LX drives and if Toshiba starts to go for the budget market with OCZ's Barefoot 3 controller inside new Vertex SSDs, all four brands could start a massive price war. The only other company which would be able to keep up is SanDisk.

You remember those days when vanilla 4GB DDR3 modules cost just R250? That's what it could be like.

This is true, same with hdd's they were insanely expensive,price/data and that went as low as 389 for a 1tb a few years back..
