For editing / sorting / managing your pics?

Currently don't have anything installed & its probably time for something other than paint. :D

Lightroom.
It's brilliant.

I manage my photos albums in it as well as (obviously) use it to do touch-ups on RAWs and to export it to JPEG.

It's definitely worth the $10/month subscription fee.

hmm 150 zar pm for the LR+PS cloud thing. Bit steep but not unexpected.

Aperture.
Will probably give this a go first. Don't think my skill level justifies PS at this stage. Isn't it an add-on / extension to PS/GIMP though? Seem to recall something like that

hmm...I've been shooting everything in jpg+raw in case I need the RAWs but I guess RAW>touchup>JPG makes more sense.

Aperture is mac only and, since they've stopped developing it, even if you are a mac user it's unlikely you'll be able to get it.

Pity really, its an awesome DAM and it's really fast so it's perfect for what I do. I don't think I'll ever update the OS on my laptop because it's one of the the most important tools in my bag and I don't want to lose it. :o

raw+JPG makes more sense to me if you're shooting to two cards.

Managing: Picasa unfortunately (will get something nice when I go pro)
Editing: Cracked Photoshop CS3 (will get Adobe Suite when pro)

Things are not so easy on WinXP, E5300, 2GB ram lol

RAW Therapee and Flickr ....yes, Flickr is actually good at sorting all of this.

Lightroom, but ACDSee is also worth a look.
http://www.acdsee.com/
I bought acdsee a few editions back its really handy for quick browsing of jpeg files, resize or crop etc of jpegs but as a raw editor its not so great, even the latest version.

Once you get your head around Lightrooms catalog and having to import it's got no competition.

There is a new kid on the block though only on Mac at the moment but in beta for Windows, can't remember the name but apparently some people are rating it as the Lightroom/photoshop/Adobe killer, people want a way out of the subscription. Lightroom standalone perpetual license is R2k and an upgrade from a previous version around R1200.
