If you're ever unsure of a species ID, upload your pics at iSpot and ask, some one will always know :)

Zebra legs means it could be a rain spider. But those pincers look huge ...

Kill first, ask questions later.

Have to admit I killed a rain spider on my perimeter wall a few days ago. Usually the cats get them.

Let me explain ... A few years ago my housemate spotted one in our spare bedroom. We promptly sealed the room and called pest control the next day. They found two and relocated then. I didn't even dare enter the room.

Also I've been bitten twice, once on my head and once on my inside leg.

Sorry, but if you're in the house you're toast. In the case of big spiders you're toast if I can see you near my house. Though I did save a big fscker when I moved in, got the electrician to move it to the nearby church, ;).

I've had a camel spider, or a "Rooi Roman spinnekop (in Afrikaans)" run up the leg of my trouser, while sitting in front of my computer, surfing this site. Needless to say ... the spider met an unfortunate end (after some fantastic contortions) and my phobia which already existed, was firmly cemented, for ever more.

Are you in the Karoo?

Nope, but in the dry region of the Western Cape.

Look north.

I visited a friend in Beaufort Wes ten years ago and they warning about then. They apparently cut hair from your head ...

I just put it back into the garden...Hope it doesn't come and bite me in my sleep :)

rain spiders are actually pretty good to keep in the garden as they control other pests like parktown prawns. They just like to come inside when its going to rain- hence the name.
We have about three conifers spotted around the garden that they like to breed in, and every now and again you see a nest. Their nests are flipping ugly, they look like a sack of web around a clump of leaves, and there are hundreds of the little buggers crawling all around it.
What we also see sometimes are spider wasps dragging them across the garden. The other day I saw the same guy dragging three different spiders over two days.

Lots of camel spiders here in my neighborhood. Big, scary and ugly. And the ****ers like to charge you, got lots of balls on them.
