Hi

Looking for a watch that:

1. Acts as a daily activity monitor / step counter (logging to discovery is a bonus)
2. Can monitor HR (bonus)
3. Can count laps (even with the press of a button)
4. Waterproof
5. Affordable

What do you use??

That just about limits you to a Polar M400.
It does GPS too but its the cheapest watch to do HR and daily activity monitoring.

I quite like the Suunto watches. A friend of mine bought the Suunto Ambit 2 (the 3 is still way overpriced) and it does a good job for him.

Laps.... swimming? Then the Garmin ones might do well.

Both of the above support Discovery.

Affordable.... what is affordable to you? Furthermore you get several Garmins and Suuntos and other watches that have incremental features depending on model, so it depends if you'll need/want those features.

I'm using the Ambit 3 sport. You can train it to learn your swimming technique for pool swimming. Works for running. Measures activity, but not steps. Just indicate how much kcal you have used. Heartrate monitor is a strap and usable for swimming. Yes. It measures heartrate in monitor

As stated. It is expensive.

The Suunto's dont do daily activity monitoring.
The polar V800 is pretty much the same as the ambit 2/3 but closer to the 3.

what is your budget?

I got a nike+ from takealot daily deals - does not step count, but gps and pod running is great and does laps and I swim, warrior , shower with it
