Besides taking medication, what can be done to reduce bad cholesterol?

Currently I'm taking dyna-bezafibrate, exercising regularly and eating relatively healthy with reduced starch intake.

Only what all tells you to do, some cardio, leave out the fat and salt, eat avos, etc, etc.

Hope all gets well soon

I had bad cholesterol, but not because of genetic factors. Had few readings of 7.x and the doctor wanted to but me on chronic cholesterol medication. I declined, a slight diet change that included having oats in the morning. Omega 3 supplement and the occasional glass of whisky as a night cap. After a few months my cholesterol dropped to sub 5 and has stayed so for the last few years.

Skip the Whiskey.

As stated, greens, amazing what one can do with salads, or spinach, better still kale.
get off red meat, have fish for protein (or cheese in leafy greens)
And hike/cycle/surf, whatever, but get out there with greens in you.
Will cure more than one issue, greens rock, not that costly and much better than out typical diet of red meat.

Go bro :')

I had high cholesterol about a year ago and my doc put me on Zumavor. I had the weirdest side effects, which included anxiety, shortness of breath and memory loss.

After 6 weeks of feeling like kark, my doc took me off the meds and I just made lifestyle changes, biggest one of all was being more active.

Within a year my cholesterol levels dropped down to a normal range.

I will not take a statin med if I can help it again.

Interesting suggestions so far. Today, went and bought some more greens, limes, avos and threw in rice vinegar too. For the turmeric got about 100 gelatine capsules to make the powder easier to ingest. Still need to get an omega 3 supplement.

Over the last few years coffee has become a firm favourite and drink about two cups on a weekend, but it seems I'll have to give it up because it's affects the heart rate quite significantly. Same effect with alcohol to a lesser degree but only drink occasionally anyway. Is green tea effective in reducing cholesterol?

Starch is easy to reduce, even bread, but not eliminate completely. Unfortunately diet and exercise only goes so far because my problem is hereditary, from both parents.

Cut your carbs right down. Live on protein and fat, and see the miracle that happens.

Level Teaspoon of cyan pepper every day is what I have been told is the best remedy.

I have been quite limp down there as I'm getting on in my years. Since taking cayenne pepper and turmeric to control my BP I have been waking up with a stiffie every morning.
I also have a large egg on toast with sardines and salad every morning and chuck cayenne on the egg with tomato source. No cholesterol problems.

My wife's granddad was a chef and ate a full English breakfast every single morning and lived to 99 years.

The more cholesterol you take the less your body makes.

I was 7+ a while back and the doc gave me 6 months to improve it else chronic meds or something.
Mountain biking, odd jog here and there - and I got it down to low 5, sometimes upper 4.
No longer get an issue.

Unfortunately the natural remedies together with bezafibrate weren't working too well so asked the GP to go ahead and prescribe the statins.

Statins react with alcohol, grapefruit and pomolomose etc. Maximum of two drink per night which is okay because I only have a couple drinks on the weekend.

A week before starting statins been taking coenzyme Q10 to sustain levels lost.

Oddly enough I don't feel the heart arrhythmia I've had for decades, having felt a normal rhythm a few days after starting Q10.

2 months ago my result from the doctor is 8.6 which is very high for a 32 yr old. On medication now. Need to change diet and exercise.

Had issues.. do more cardio, check whey protein (if u take), use olive oil, eat less fried items unless air fried, eat more veggies, i don’t do butter/spreads (so no change for me), if having red meat.. medium rare to rare is better. Mine went from 5.5+ to 3.5 no meds, nothing special just change in food habits.

Stress is another issue but that’s never really doing away at work.
