Telkom have upgraded the exchanges at my home and office, both to 10mbps.
http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/ tells me both available and my current service is 10mbps, however I am only connecting at 4mbps. Do I need to contact Telkom and ask them to sync me at the higher speed or is there anything I can do on my side?
Thanks.

Check that your router stats show 10Mbps or 4Mbps, if so then you need to upgrade the Isp account to 10Mbps.

Im sure he thought it would be a "free" upgrade. Next time just include that it would cost more before you land in hot water.

Before i land in hot water? Its got nothing to do with me, i could start stating all sorts of things that weren't ask. Brettmeyer make sure you don't sign any contracts, because if i don't tell him that i might land up in hot water right? Its not up to me to tell the guy to check prices of products when he didn't specifically ask about prices.

Some of the people on the internet are very naive, If you dont tell them it will cost extra they will get a hell of a shock when they see next months bill, please dont feel as if im attacking you, ive seen this before on another forum and the poster got a lot of lip from the OP.

I know you're not trying to attack me, im trying to tell you that im not interested in a posters naivety (thats their own problem). Basic logic tells you that a better product costs more, if someone doesnt know this its up to them to find out. We cant all be holding each others hands like babies here, OP could give me as much lip as they like but at the end of the day its still his/her problem.

Anyways this thread has been completely derailed so im going to stop replying now.

Hi, sorry forgot to mention that at home I am on capped Afrihost account, so get up to 40mbs (or whatever their max is), and I am on the telkom fastest line, so in theory (or a perfect world) I should sync at 10mb. Highest attainable on home router said around 9mb.

Afrihost aren't managing the line so I can't try anything on their client zone. Am I better off calling telkom and asking to resync?

Brett something isnt adding up,if your modem stats are showing 9Mbps down and you are on an capped account then you should be getting those speeds. Are you sure you're reading the modem stats correctly, can you post a speed test?

What a funny thread... Unhappy438, you really need to be more considerate. ;-)

What a silly comment, if i wasn't considerate i wouldn't be in this thread trying to help Brett would i?

I'll have to grab them when I get home and post a screen shot, but it basically says something like:

Highest attainable download: 9216kbps (or somewhere around that value)
Current download: 4096kbps

Upload is similar 1024 / 512 or whatever the ration is for up / down.

The modem is a D-Link DSL-2500U if I remember offhand... it's an old bugger.

I had the same problem recently, call telkom, ask them to re-synch. All he is saying guys, is he should be getting a faster connection, but he is still synching at the old speed (even though the exchange is upgraded). A few people in my neighborhood who did not call telkom eventually started synching at the faster speeds after a day or 2.

Then it's the OP's fault. Not the poster's.

This forum is for over 18's. If the OP can't think like an adult then he needs to learn.

This thread took a bit of a turn, basically was just curious if I could do anything on my side without calling Telkom to re-sync, anyway - did get through to them without to long of a wait and asked them to re-sync, and happily I am now on 10mb:

Attainable Rate (Kbps): down: 11672, up: 1077
Rate (Kbps): down: 10139, up: 1021

:) Thanks all.
